Gingham crop tie top #s8655

Hi guys! After making my gingham skirt I had the fabric laying around (literally on the ground, don’t judge me) so I figured I would make something else with it. I had recently picked up Mimi G Style pattern s8655 with Simplicity featuring a tie top. Love those for summer. When I first started I had the intention of keeping on the 3/4 length sleeve but as you can see I just left it at the drop shoulder. I love how this turned out and i definitely have plans to make another top in this style.

I cut out a size 6 from the pattern. Usually I trace my patterns but I just wasn’t feeling it this time. From the front pattern picture you can see Mimi G has her top styled with a cropped tank top under top. I want to make something similar for a swimsuit coverup. But for the gingham top I wanted something tied higher, where I wouldn’t need anything underneath. I opted to shorten the length 4.5in of the bodice so the tie would be closer to my under-boob area.

Before I cut out the sleeve portion of the pattern I laid my back bodice piece and front pieces together. At this point I liked how the blouse looked without sleeves and decided to just go for it. I used French seams on all the sides and a bias tape neckline. It was a quick and easy make that I really enjoyed. I want to make the sleeved version of this tie top in a white linen for summer. I still have some left over gingham fabric so I’m waiting for inspiration on what else to make with that.
