DIY Gingham Fleece Jacket using Simplicity 8704

It’s no secret that once fall rolls around I just want to curl up with something cozy. I knew when I felt this luxe fleece at Joann Fabric Stores I wanted to make a half zip jacket. I know I’m not the only one who loves these, fuzzy jackets are always in style through fall and winter. This jacket will definitely take me through fall, winter, and a PNW spring.

I snagged some great simplicity patterns from a hobby lobby sale. I used the pattern on the right, Simplicity 8704 for this gingham fleece jacket. The pattern on the left will be for a future project 😉 For 8704 I cut out view C (bottom right hand corner) in a size medium.

How fun is this faux Sherpa collar? I was having some trouble with the directions for the collar so I decided to take a little break from sewing. I’m glad I took some time to clear my head because during my break I decided to organize my fabric stash and came across this faux Sherpa. I realized it would be the perfect addition to my cozy jacket.

I finished my sleeves and bottom hem off with fold over elastic. This gray elastic happened to match perfectly and it was something I had left over from days making hair ties and headbands. The fold over elastic I picked up from ebay several years ago.
